Snow Team Tackling Road Pre-Treatment

For immediate release: Thursday, January 15, 2026

Snow crews are working to ensure Kansas City is prepared for incoming winter weather expected on Friday, January 16, 2026. With below-freezing and possibly icy conditions anticipated from tomorrow afternoon through the evening, staff members started pre-treating at 9:30 Thursday morning to get the roads ready. 24-hour snow operations will continue through the weekend, as icy conditions could continue into Saturday.

Impact on City Services

  • Snow Operations: Crews are working 12-hours shifts while prioritizing ice control. Residents can check the Kansas City Snow Plow Map to see when their area was last plowed.
  • Bulky Item Pickup: Friday pickup is canceled so crews can focus on clearing ice. If you had an appointment for Friday, your collection will take place this weekend instead.
  • Trash and Recycling: Pickup will continue on the normal schedule.
