HEMET, CA - The City of Hemet, in coordination with regional fire agencies, is releasing details on the Myers Fire Incident currently impacting the community.
The fire was first reported on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 12:25 PM near Devonshire Avenue and Myers Street in the Tres Cerritos area. A full vegetation response was initiated, with Fire Engine 3 arriving first on scene and describing a vegetation fire covering several acres. Battalion 1 assumed command of the incident, and additional resources were requested through CAL FIRE.
As of this afternoon, the Myers Fire Incident burned an estimated 120 acres. Fire officials report that forward progress has been stopped and do not anticipate further spread. No structures were lost; while one structure was immediately threatened, fire crews were able to successfully defend it.
Evacuations were ordered for both the Pepper Tree neighborhood and Rancho Viejo Middle School, while Tahquitz High School was placed on a temporary shelter-in-place order. All evacuation orders were lifted at 5:00 PM today.
In total, 19 engines, two water tenders, and three chief officers were committed to the response. A helicopter and two fixed-wing aircraft were also deployed earlier in the day but have since been released.
Significant support came from CAL FIRE, the Riverside County Emergency Management Division, Soboba Fire, Murrieta Fire, Idyllwild Fire, and Morongo Fire, in addition to all Hemet Fire units.
Two minor injuries were reported. One firefighter sustained a minor injury, and a Hemet firefighter was treated for dehydration but did not require hospital transport.
The Myers Fire Incident has been confirmed as a vegetation fire. Its cause and origin remain under investigation.
The City urges residents to remain alert, avoid the area while mop-up operations continue, and follow official updates from the City of Hemet and partner agencies.
