Senator Fontana Announces Nearly $900K in Community Safety Grants

Allegheny County - March 11, 2026 - Today, Senator Wayne Fontana announced $890,536 in grants to fund indigent defense, provide lifesaving treatment for those incarcerated, and improve safety at nonprofits located in the 42nd Senatorial District.

Awarded by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD), the grants were drawn from three programs created and funded by the General Assembly.

"These PCCD grants will help to ensure that incarcerated persons receive the treatment they need and the legal representation they are due," said Sen. Fontana. "And I am proud to have advocated for the NonProfit Security Grant Program funding that was awarded to organizations in my district susceptible to targeted hate."

Allegheny County was awarded $250,000 from the Act 80 Fund for the Vivitrol Program at the Allegheny County Jail. This is a once-a-month treatment for persons suffering from opioid or alcohol addiction.

Allegheny County also received $125,485 for Indigent Defense, ensuring that everyone receives their Constitutional right to representation in court.

And the following organizations received NonProfit Security grants:

  • Attawheed Islamic Center, Carnegie - $100,000
  • Beth El Congregation of the South Hills, Mt. Lebanon - $25,000
  • Chabad Lubavitch of the South Hills, Mt. Lebanon - $25,000
  • Penns Woods Classical Academy, Mt. Lebanon - $45,051
  • Planned Parenthood of Western Pennsylvania, Downtown - $75,000
  • Seton LaSalle Catholic High School, Mt. Lebanon - $100,000
  • SisTers PGH, Downtown - $50,000
  • The Greenwood Plan, Downtown - $25,000
  • TransYOUniting, Northside - $70,000
