Scranton Ph.D. Student, Crowley, Earns National Acclaim

Jacob Crowley, a member of The University of Scranton's Ph.D. in accounting program from Strongsville, Ohio, recently received a pair of prestigious honors.

Crowley is one of just 25 accounting educators and researchers in the country to be honored as a 2025 Association of International Certified Professional Accountants (AICPA) Foundation Accounting Doctoral Fellow.

"Receiving the AICPA Doctoral Fellowship is both an honor and an investment in my journey toward completing my Ph.D. in accounting," Crowley said. "The fellowship provides crucial support that allows me to focus on advancing my research, strengthening my teaching and contributing to the profession. This opportunity brings me closer to my goal of making a lasting impact in accounting education and practice."

Crowley was also one of four individuals to receive 2025 Outstanding Faculty Advisor Awards recognition from Beta Alpha Psi, the international honor organization for financial information students and professionals. Amanda Marcy '10, G'11, Ph.D.'20, assistant professor of accounting at Scranton, was one of the other four honorees.

Dr. Marcy has known Crowley as a student and a peer, saying he demonstrates "remarkable dedication" with "great enthusiasm" in all facets of his life and career.

"Jake consistently puts his students first and himself second, a quality that is evident in how he balances his professional, academic and personal responsibilities," Dr. Marcy said. "I am not at all surprised to see him earn these well-deserved recognitions."

While studying toward his doctoral degree, Crowley serves Ohio Northern University as an assistant professor of accounting.

"I chose The University of Scranton because of its commitment to developing scholar-teachers who balance research excellence with meaningful student engagement," Crowley said. "The faculty's mentorship, the program's emphasis on applied research and the supportive academic community made Scranton the ideal place to pursue my doctoral studies and prepare for a career of impact in accounting education all while continuing my current job and supporting my family."
