UFT: No endorsement in the New York City Democratic Mayoral Primary

"The union listens to the voices of its members.

There is no clear consensus among our members in this year's mayoral primary. It is one of the most polarizing races we have seen from a union perspective.

Between our outreach, mayoral forum, and push to bring candidates into our classrooms, the UFT helped change the campaigns' conversations about educational issues.

However, given our members' different preferences among the candidates, we have determined that it is inappropriate for the union as an institution to make an endorsement in this year's Democratic primary for mayor."
- Michael Mulgrew, President of the United Federation of Teachers

UFT President Michael Mulgrew is available for interviews about the mayoral decision.
