January 17: Household Hazardous Waste
Residents (non-business) can register for an appointment to drop-off household hazardous waste (HHW) for proper disposal.
HHW can be dangerous to people, pets, plants, and the environment. Do not throw it in the trash, pour it on the ground, or down storm drains. Learn which materials are accepted at monthly collection events.

January 21: Apply for Community Emergency Response Team training in Spanish
Ventura is offering its fifth Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training, including its second Spanish-language session!
This free, 24-hour course teaches residents how to prepare for and respond to emergencies, from basic medical care to light search and rescue. The six-week training runs Wednesday evenings from January 21 to February 25, with a final drill on February 28. Open to Ventura and Santa Paula residents. January 31: Teen Explorer Program accepting applications
Applications are now open for the Ventura Police Department's Teen Explorer Program, a hands-on opportunity for high school students ages 14-18 to learn about law enforcement, build leadership skills, and serve their community.
Explorers train alongside officers, participate in ride-alongs, assist at community events, and gain real-world experience beyond the classroom.
Applications will be accepted through January 31, 2026.
