US Senator Turns His Back On New Mexicans

SEPTEMBER 19, 2025 - Statement from Amy Barela, Chairwoman of the Republican Party of New Mexico
Once again, another Democrat "representing" New Mexico has shown he does not represent the values or the needs of the people of this state. Today, Senator Ben Ray Luján voted with Chuck Schumer and Washington elites to shut down the federal government, delaying paychecks to our military service members and putting veterans' healthcare at risk.

Instead of standing up for New Mexicans, Luján chose fearmongering and political games. He used scare tactics to divide and mislead, then cast a vote that directly harms the very people he claims to represent. His actions jeopardize rural hospitals, increase waste and fraud in Medicaid, and force hardworking taxpayers to foot the bill for illegal immigrants, all while ignoring the real needs of New Mexico families.

"Enough is enough," said Amy Barela, Chairwoman of the Republican Party of New Mexico.
"New Mexicans deserve leaders who will put their needs first, not Washington politics. Ben Ray Luján has once again proven that his loyalty is to party bosses, not to the people of this state. It is time to change the way we vote, New Mexico. What do we have to lose at this point, other than more of the same failed leadership?"
