Strengthening emergency departments: Minister LaGrange

"The new Triage Liaison Physician program is a major win for patients and for busy emergency departments across Alberta. Triage Liaison Physicians will work directly in busy emergency department waiting areas to assess patients sooner, identify those whose conditions may be deteriorating, initiate diagnostic tests and imaging earlier, and help patients begin treatment sooner.

"This program will improve patient flow, reduce wait times, strengthen patient safety and ultimately lead to better outcomes for Albertans. The program was developed through close collaboration between Alberta's government, Acute Care Alberta, and the Alberta Medical Association. When you build a brand new program from the ground up, it's important to take the time to get it right. By working directly with physicians throughout the process, we've developed a practical, sustainable program that supports front-line doctors while putting patients' first.

"While every province in Canada is facing growing demands on emergency departments, Alberta is leading the way with innovative, concrete solutions.

"We extend our sincere thanks to Acute Care Alberta, Alberta Medical Association, Covenant Health, Alberta Health Services and our emergency physicians for their partnership in delivering meaningful improvements to emergency care for Albertans."
