Support local artists and enjoy a variety of outdoor vendors and games at GroundBeat-where you can enjoy the summer concert experience without paying summer concert prices.

Produced by AfroDesiaCity (a Boston-based event agency), Wednesday's "Rhythms of Unity"-themed concert joins R&B, jazz, funk, spoken word, and dance, all on the same stage.

Performers include Aric B., a recording artist and Harvard graduate; DJ Basi B., an all-vinyl DJ from Dorchester, Mass.; Abria Smith, a Boston native who has been performing as a poet, actor, and musician for more than 20 years; and LesleyAnn Moore, a self-taught performing artist from Boston.

While you're there, enjoy lawn games and other family-friendly activities and grab a treat from one of the food vendors. Be sure to arrive early: Bocadillos-known for its empanadas and delectable Caribbean cuisine-will be giving out free empanadas to the first 100 customers. GroundBeat will also have a limited number of free picnic blankets and stadium seating chairs available to borrow.

GroundBeat was created in 2018 to diversify Boston's art scene by providing an inclusive space for local producers and artists to perform at the Esplanade's iconic Hatch Memorial Shell. The concert series was created in partnership by Catherine T. Morris, founder and director of the Boston Art and Music Soul Fest-a festival intended to break down social and racial barriers to music, art, and culture-and the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation.

Keep in mind that there is no parking on the Esplanade, so plan to arrive on foot or by bike or public transportation.
