On August 27th 2026 Spokane police officers arrested David Gilchunmogon (43) for Arson 2nd Degree in relation to the fire at Lumberbeard Brewing.

On August 23rd 2026, a little after 4:00 AM, Spokane Fire Department responded to a fire at Lumberbeard Brewing at E. 3rd Ave and S. Pine St. After the initial investigation, an SFD fire investigator determined the fire appeared to be human caused. SPD investigated further and observed video footage showing the suspect climb up a fire escape holding a piece of cardboard. The suspect then climbed down and walked away. Shortly after, flames could be seen on the rooftop of an outbuilding at Lumberbeard Brewing. The male suspect had distinct features, including a specific tattoo, his clothing, and a dark colored backpack.

Officers located Gilchunmogon around 8:40 AM on the 27th, wearing similar clothing, and with an identical tattoo. Gilchunmogon told officers he had been sleeping on the roof of Lumberbeard Brewing. He was arrested with several lighters and a backpack full of scrap paper.

Gichunmogon is currently being investigated as a possible suspect in other recent fires around the downtown area. In June of 2024, Gilchunmogon was suspected of starting two dumpsters on fire at a local downtown business. He was also arrested for Malicious Mischief 2nd after being suspected of breaking windshields out of several vehicles at a local dealership.
