Timely action by relevant authorities protects citizens’ lives, health, property

Prime Minister Professor Đuro Macut, MD, DSc, said today that the relevant authorities have managed to protect people's lives and health, as well as their property, through timely action, which, amid the heatwave, drought, fires and other risks, is by far the most important task.

Macut said that all relevant authorities continued to implement measures and activities on a daily basis, in coordination with the Emergency Response Team, adding that special thanks are owed to firefighters-rescuers and others who are engaged every day in preventing the spread of fires.

According to today's report submitted by the relevant authorities to the Operational Team of the Emergency Response Team, 39 open-space fires are currently active across Serbia.

In Deliblato Sands, in the municipality of Kovin, where a state of emergency has been declared in part of the territory, the fire has affected an area of up to 3,000 hectares, mostly low vegetation and grass.

The fire on Mt. Stolovi near Kraljevo remains active, while fires in the village of Breznica in the municipality of Bujanovac and the village of Gornji Brestovac in the municipality of Bojnik have been brought under control.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić, together with Assistant Minister and Head of the Emergency Situations Sector Luka Čaušić, visited today members of the Sector and other services engaged in the remediation and monitoring of the fire site in Dubovac, in Deliblato Sands.

According to the information submitted, water supply to citizens across the Republic of Serbia is proceeding with individual local disruptions, while most parts of the country are not subject to water restrictions due to shortages.

The relevant authorities regularly monitor the quality of drinking water and river water, with particular attention to the quality of the Danube's water due to the possible deterioration caused by the exceptionally low water level.
