Illinois 6 lane reduction begins Feb. 26

PEORIA - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that southbound Illinois 6 at eastbound Interstate 474 in Peoria will be reduced to one lane beginning Feb. 26.

The lane reduction is necessary to perform temporary striping, signing and other work ahead the next stage of construction on the bridge over Kickapoo Creek. It will be in place into late fall.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
