Former Dollar General Chief Diversity Officer Ordered to Issue Retraction of Certain Statements Regarding Dollar General Corporation

Goodlettsville, Tennessee - June 4, 2025 - Today, Dollar General Corporation (NYSE: DG) released the court-ordered retraction of certain false and disparaging statements regarding the Company made by its former Chief Diversity Officer, Johné Battle, and disseminated to various individuals and entities.

To be clear, these are not the only statements made by Battle and others with which the Company disagrees. Although the Company does not intend to debate each inaccurate and misleading statement in this release, suffice it to say that Dollar General disputes any allegation of race discrimination or retaliation, neither of which has a place at Dollar General.

And as our mission states, Dollar General's actions are unqualifiedly aimed at Serving Others - not, as has been suggested, only some others.

April 28, 2025

Bradenton, Fla. - Today, Dr. Johné E. Battle ("Battle"), former Senior Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer at Dollar General Corporation ("Dollar General"), issued a full and unequivocal retraction of certain statements he made and/or authorized regarding Dollar General. • Any assertion that a lawsuit has been filed by Battle in which he seeks to represent Dollar General's "black and brown" employees or "employees of color"
  • Any comparison of Dollar General and its culture to a "plantation"
  • Any comparison of his grievances against Dollar General, and the significance thereof, to the claims raised in the Supreme Court cases of Brown v. Board of Education and Roe v. Wade
  • Any assertion that his grievances against Dollar General present a "milestone case [which] underscores the widespread impact of the company's bias[sic] employment practices"
  • Any assertion that his grievances against Dollar General are "by far, the most egregious in the wake of the country's 'anti-woke' climate and the recent attempts at dismantling racial equity"
  • Any reference to Dollar General as "bigoted" and as employing a "quiet, massive and multi-layered cover-up"

"My statements were ill-advised, and I should not have made them," said Battle. "I apologize for making such statements and for any harm they caused, and I will refrain from making such comments in the future."
