HONOLULU - The Hawai'i Department of Health (DOH) Food Safety Branch (FSB) issued a red placard and immediately shut down Chef Chai, located at 1009 Kapiʻolani Blvd. On arrival for a routine inspection on Nov. 12, the inspector discovered that the establishment has a new owner and does not have a valid food establishment permit.

The food establishment, operated by Pomaikai Culinary Group, LLC received the red placard on Nov. 12, 2025 and has been ordered to remain closed until the new owner has applied for a food establishment permit and has been approved to operate by the DOH FSB.

The DOH FSB protects and promotes the health of Hawai'i residents and visitors through education of food industry workers and regulation of food establishments statewide. The branch conducts routine health inspections of food establishments where food products are prepared, manufactured, distributed, or sold.
