Phase 2 of Regional Flood Mitigation Study Set to Begin

Galveston County and the City of League City announced today that Phase 2 of the Lower Clear Creek and Dickinson Bayou Watershed flood mitigation study has been officially approved by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

This is a major step forward in ongoing efforts to protect lives and property in the region from future flooding. In 2022, Galveston County and League City worked with over a dozen local partners to complete Phase 1 of the study, which identified key projects to reduce flood levels across the region. Phase 2 will now focus on refining those solutions and developing funding strategies for large-scale, regional improvements.

"I'm proud that League City has been a leading voice in the flood relief effort for so many years, along with the County and others," said Mayor Nick Long. "While we as local governments must continue developing and completing internal drainage projects, we know the biggest impact will come from these large regional projects."
