Disaster Assistance Centers Opening to Support Residents Impacted by Winter Storm Fern

Beginning Tuesday, February 10, 2026 the Nashville Office of Emergency Management (OEM), in coordination with the Office of the Mayor and Metro partners, will open two Disaster Assistance Centers (DACs) to provide in-person support for residents impacted by Winter Storm Fern. These centers are designed to connect community members with local resources, recovery guidance, and critical information as response efforts continue to transition into recovery.

Important Clarification

While some residents may associate Disaster Assistance Centers with federal disaster aid, FEMA assistance is not currently available at these locations. At this time, the centers are staffed by Metro agencies and community partners focused on addressing immediate local needs.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved FEMA Public Assistance (PA) to support eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations with disaster-related response and recovery costs. Public Assistance helps cover eligible expenses associated with emergency work and the repair or replacement of damaged public infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, utilities, and public buildings.

FEMA Individual Assistance (IA), which may provide direct support to eligible individuals and households for certain uninsured or underinsured disaster-related needs, remains under federal review at this time.

"Under federal review" means the state has submitted required information and documentation for FEMA's evaluation of household impacts and unmet needs. No final determination has been issued yet. If IA is approved, FEMA will announce registration details, eligible counties/areas, and application deadlines through official channels.

Should federal disaster support become available in the future, these centers are positioned to transition into state-led, federally supported sites. Additional guidance will be shared if that occurs.

OEM will continue working alongside local and state partners to evaluate community needs and expand resources as appropriate.
