WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Lateefah Simon (D-CA-12) announced over $2,380,000 in funding for Asian Health Services (AHS).
"Asian Health Services serves tens of thousands of patients in the Bay Area and is a critical health care provider for our district. Eighty-three percent of AHS' patients experience linguistic isolation and ninety-six percent of patients are on Medicare, Medi-CAL, or uninsured. The work they do for our district's diverse communities is incomparable. I am thrilled to award over $2 million in funding, so AHS can continue their work to keep our children, families, and elders healthy and safe.
"At a time when federal health care and research funding comes under attack-I am focused on ensuring organizations in our district have the resources and support they need."
During her tenure, Congresswoman Barbara Lee continuously advocated for Asian Health Services and equal access to health care, especially for immigrant and refugee Asian communities-Congresswoman Simon's funding announcement builds on this decades-long work. Asian Health Services provides medical, dental, and behavioral health services to more than 28,000 patients annually in English and 14 other languages including: Korean, Lao, Burmese, Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, French, Mien, Karen, Mongolian, Karenni, Tagalog, Khmer, and Vietnamese.
