Celebrate Sonna Singleton Gregory Day

(Clayton County, GA) - Clayton County celebrates the birthday of the late and former District 1 Commissioner Sonna Singleton Gregory as Sonna Singleton Gregory Day. Chairwoman Dr. Alieka Anderson-Henry will present a proclamation honoring Singleton Gregory at the Board of Commissioners Meeting on Tues., Jan. 7, 2025, at 6 p.m.

Sonna Singleton Gregory passed away on May 27, 2021, after vigilantly serving the residents of Clayton County since 2007. She was a dedicated leader, and an advocate in the fight against ovarian cancer by raising awareness, educating community members about the signs and symptoms of cancer, and the importance of early detection. Singleton Gregory's passion for literacy and education led to the creation of the Clayton County Youth Commission in an effort to get young people involved in policy. Her vision continues to empower and inspire others to engage in local government and actively participate in their civic duties.

"Commissioner Sonna Singleton Gregory was a pioneer and an inspiration to me and the residents of Clayton County," said Chairwoman Dr. Anderson-Henry. "Her groundbreaking work paved the way for countless individuals and inspired future generations of leaders."

The observance of Sonna Singleton Gregory Day serves as a reminder of the importance of civil engagement and the power individuals have to create positive change. Residents are encouraged to reflect on Commissioner Singleton Gregory's exceptional achievements, celebrate her enduring legacy, and continue advocating for the principles and causes she passionately supported.

"My mother loved and lived to serve," stated Jordyn Speakman, daughter of Commissioner Singleton Gregory. "May today honor not just her memory, but also her example of love and selfless service."
