Lukáš Kačena will become the Government's AI Commissioner. The Government decided this on Monday. The cabinet also approved the IX. report on the implementation of the National Recovery Plan (NRP). It shows that the NRP is being implemented according to the schedule and the Czech Republic continues to meet the conditions for drawing the European funds.
"Artificial intelligence is a clear priority of the Government. Lukáš Kačena has extensive experience in the field of AI and fully meets the requirements for a Government Commissioner. His task will be to coordinate the development of artificial intelligence in the Czech Republic in cooperation with the Government, individual ministries, public administration, entrepreneurs and other key actors in the field of AI" says 1st Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček.
Lukáš Kačena currently serves as the Chairman of the Czech National AI Platform and Director of the prg.ai organization. Regarding the new position, he says: "Continuity is definitely important to me, there are many things that need to be finalized. My main tasks result directly from the Government's program statement - the use of AI for the needs of the state (including, for example, healthcare), an active role in the field of European digital policy, support for AI research and, of course, support for the adoption of AI."
The Government also approved the IX. Report on the Implementation of the National Recovery Plan, which summarizes the current status of the implementation of individual measures and reforms. It shows, among other things, that the next application for payment from the grant part of the plan was submitted last November 2025. In it, the Czech Republic met a total of 29 milestones and targets. If there are no changes to the approved or reported milestones and targets, the payment of approximately 14.5 billion Czech crowns should come in March or April this year.
"The National Recovery Plan is one of the tools for modernizing the Czech economy. We are meeting the agreed milestones and targets and are proceeding in such a way that the Czech Republic can fully use the funds at its disposal" adds Karel Havlíček.
The Government should discuss the tenth regular report on the implementation of the National Recovery Plan in three months.
