Cherokee Nation celebrates the season with return of Fall Harvest Festival

SALLISAW, Okla. - Join Cherokee Nation on Oct. 24 for its annual Fall Harvest Festival on the grounds of Sequoyah's Cabin Museum. Rooted in community and tradition, the festival gives families an opportunity to celebrate Cherokee culture while welcoming the fall season.

The festival is free and open to the public and runs from 11a.m. to 4 p.m. with live music, pumpkin decorating, cultural demonstrations and more.

From twining and basketry to flint knapping and more, a variety of cultural demonstrations will be available throughout the day from several Cherokee artists and Cherokee National Treasures.

"This festival is an opportunity to come together as a community, kick off the fall season and celebrate what it means to be Cherokee," said Donna Tinnin, senior manager of museums and events. "I look forward to seeing families gather at this beautiful property for a day filled with fall-themed activities and Cherokee culture."

In addition, guests can enjoy an artisan market featuring more than 10 Cherokee artists, traditional games, a pumpkin patch and scenic fall photo opportunities.

At Sequoyah's Cabin Museum, visitors can explore the home of Sequoyah, legendary statesman and inventor of the Cherokee syllabary. The museum wraps around the original log cabin that Sequoyah constructed in 1829, along with exhibits that share the stories about Cherokee Old Settlers, Cherokee Nation post-removal and the thriving Cherokee Nation today.
