Statement from the Government of Yukon on the deaths of three people in the Northwest Territories wildfire plane crash

Published June 25, 2026

Premier Currie Dixon, Minister of Community Services Cory Bellmore and the Yukon Wildland Fire Management branch have issued the following statement:

"The Government of Yukon and Wildland Fire Management send our deepest condolences to the Northwest Territories on the deaths of three people whose airplane crashed while responding to a wildfire near Fort Simpson on June 24.

"Flags at Yukon Wildland Fire Management have been set to half-mast in their honour. We are thinking of our neighbours to the east, who have stood with us during many wildfire seasons. Our hearts are with the loved ones, communities and colleagues of those who died, as we mourn along with people across the north.

"On behalf of all Yukoners, we thank wildfire personnel throughout our region and around the world, whether in the sky, on the fireline, or in supporting roles. We are grateful for the work you do every day to keep our communities safe.

"These losses will be felt deeply across the entire wildfire community and throughout northern communities. We stand in solidarity and offer our support as you navigate this difficult situation."
