DMU ranked among the UK's top universities for research and AI

Pioneering research and innovation has earned De Montfort University, Leicester (DMU), a place in the UK's top 10 universities for Artificial Intelligence.

The university has been named 10th in the UK for AI in the Shanghai Global Rankings and has also achieved 14th in the UK for Research Quality in the 2026 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.

This international recognition comes from DMU's School of Computer Science, where the university has been recognised for its research in software development, AI, machine learning and cybersecurity.

Professor Mike Kagioglou, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Planning, Research and Innovation at DMU said: "This is significant recognition of the research we do so well at DMU: impactful studies directly addressing real-world problems.

"Our researchers are at the forefront of innovation in AI, cybersecurity and the digital world. This is an acknowledgement celebrating the ambition, expertise and dedication of our research community."

THE assessed more than 1,000 universities from 84 countries, using 18 performance indicators across teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook, and industry engagement.

Similarly, the Shanghai Ranking assesses 57 subjects each year based on research quality, impact, and international collaboration, highlighting the international recognition of DMU's AI research.

Worldwide, DMU ranks in the 301-400 band for Computer Science in THE and among the top 150 universities worldwide for Artificial Intelligence in the Shanghai Rankings- putting it among the world's leading universities for computer science research.
