WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) released the following statement today regarding President Donald Trump's midnight dismissal of the independent Inspectors General at several federal agencies:
"President Trump promised to 'restore the integrity, competency, and loyalty of America's government' in his inaugural address. That promise is already in tatters less than a week into his presidency. If his claims about caring about transparency and accountability in government were truthful, he wouldn't have purged the independent inspectors general who hold our agencies to those principles. This illegal action is just the latest example of how the Trump Administration creates new opportunities for government corruption instead of new opportunities for Americans to get ahead."
