Trees play a critical role in how Tampa grows, cools, and recovers, and this Saturday, the City is inviting residents into the conversation.
The City of Tampa will host its inaugural Rooted in Tampa: Tree Town Hall on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at City Center at Hanna Avenue (2555 E. Hanna Ave). The community event will focus on Tampa's urban tree canopy, recent data on tree coverage in the city, and new ways residents can get involved in making Tampa greener.
City staff will share results from Tampa's latest tree canopy analysis, a citywide study that tracks where trees are growing and where more shade is needed. Arborists, planners, and sustainability experts will discuss how trees improve public health and explore where more trees are needed on both public and private property, outlining how the City plants and maintains trees along streets, in parks, and throughout neighborhoods. Residents will also learn how to access free tree programs, select the right tree for their property, and care for trees over time to ensure long-term benefits.
"Whether you own a home, rent, or simply care about Tampa's green spaces, this event offers a chance to learn about the benefits trees can have on your neighborhood and quality of life," said Mayor Jane Castor. "We hope residents will come out to ask questions, share feedback, and help the city make decision that will impact all parts of Tampa."
The event will conclude with an interactive open house featuring information booths with City departments and community partners, hands-on tree care demonstrations, and family-friendly activities.
