March 10, 2026 - ROCHESTER, MINN. - The Public Works Department is seeking feedback from residents on the upcoming sanitary sewer maintenance projects happening on 2 Street SE and 16 Avenue SE. The project will address aging underground utilities along 2 Street SE from 15 Avenue SE to the eastern cul-de-sac, and 16 Avenue SE from 4 Street SE to 2 Street SE near the Olmsted Medical Center Hospital. The project focuses on replacing a deteriorating sanitary sewer line installed prior to 1946 that poses a high risk for collapse and potential sewer backup into the hospital. Work includes reconstruction of approximately 1,650 feet of roadway along 2 Street SE and 16 Avenue SE, replacement of the existing water main and storm sewer, and installation of new concrete curb and gutter. Additional improvements include a new sidewalk on the north side of 2 Street SE and updated pedestrian curb ramps at nearby intersections to meet current ADA standards.
