New agreement reflects growing regional strategy to expand access and workforce pathways across the Southeast

NEW ORLEANS, April 27, 2026 - Loyola University New Orleans and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College today formalized a partnership designed to expand access to higher education and create clearer pathways for student success across the Gulf South.

Leaders from both institutions gathered on Loyola's campus to sign a Memorandum of Understanding that strengthens transfer opportunities, enhances academic collaboration, and supports students seeking to advance their education and careers. The partnership is expected to create new pathways for community college graduates and working adults to complete bachelor's degrees while supporting regional workforce needs.

This agreement also creates a direct pathway into Loyola's online degree programs, ensuring accessibility and flexibility for working students and adult learners. Graduates of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College will be eligible to seamlessly transfer into Loyola's Bachelor of Applied Science online degree completion program, with all 60 credits accepted. Students will enter as first-semester juniors, providing a clear and efficient path to degree completion through Loyola Online.

"As someone who grew up in Biloxi, I have seen firsthand the importance of strong educational pathways across the Gulf South," said Dr. Xavier A. Cole. "At Loyola, we are committed to creating opportunities that meet students where they are and help them move forward with purpose. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to access, excellence, and student success."

This agreement builds on Loyola's growing network of partnerships across the Southeast, including, The City of New Orleans, Delgado, Baton Rouge Community College and Fletcher Technical Community College, among others, reflecting a broader strategy to expand opportunity and workforce alignment.

Dr. Mary S. Graham emphasized the importance of collaboration.

"This agreement creates meaningful opportunities for our students to continue their education in a seamless and supportive way," Graham said. "We are proud to partner with Loyola to open doors and help our students achieve their goals."

Under Dr. Graham's leadership, MGCCC has earned national recognition for innovation and student success, including recognition from the Aspen Institute.
