On Tuesday, President Gitanas Nausėda met with the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, who arrived in Lithuania on an official visit.
The leaders of Lithuania and Moldova discussed bilateral relations, Moldova's European integration, support for Ukraine, and current defense and security issues.
"Our countries face security risks posed by Russia, including border security and airspace violations, interference in elections and other democratic processes, energy blackmail, and, most importantly, Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine," the President noted.
The President underlined that Lithuania reaffirms its commitment to helping Moldova counter Russia's unprecedented hybrid attacks. Lithuania also supports the aspirations of Moldova and Ukraine to become full members of the European Union no later than 2030.
"We welcome Moldova's progress in implementing reforms despite difficult circumstances. We encourage Moldova to continue and accelerate the necessary EU-related reforms, make them irreversible, and ensure that their benefits are felt and understood by society," the President said.
Gitanas Nausėda noted that Lithuania is ready to share its experience with Moldova in the information and communication technologies sector, especially in e-governance and cybersecurity.
According to the President, Lithuania is widely recognized internationally for its expertise in cybersecurity, e-business, and e-government solutions, and Lithuanian companies can offer advanced solutions the areas of state registries, customs, tax administration, banking, and other sectors.
The President also urged Moldova to strengthen its military capabilities. He recalled that Lithuania's bilateral development cooperation support to Moldova amounted to 7.56 million euros in 2022-2025 and continues to grow. Lithuania's military assistance to Moldova will total 6 million euros in 2026-2028.
