Dear Santa Monicans,

Today, thousands gathered peacefully in Santa Monica at Palisades Park and across the nation to raise their voices in a powerful and uplifting expression of First Amendment rights.

In anticipation of today's gathering, and out of an abundance of caution, the Santa Monica Police Department activated all sworn officers and field-based personnel and opened the city's Emergency Operations Center.

I thank them for protecting the community and for honoring the peaceful nature of today's protest.

As we look ahead to the rest of the weekend, we will continue to monitor activities in the region.

If you see something concerning, please say something. But above all, please share information responsibly and do not allow misinformation to spread fear.

As we move forward, let's keep this community spirit alive. Let's continue to show up and take care of one another. Peace is powerful. Let's keep leading with it.

Sincerely,
Lana Negrete, Mayor
