SMS group wins order from JSW Utkal Steel Limited for a sinter plant at its new 13.2 MTPA integrated steel plant in Paradeep

• In the first phase, a sinter plant with an annual production capacity of approximately 5.75 million tons will be installed, featuring a strand area of 496 square meters
• The scope of supply includes design, engineering, and equipment, along with electrical systems and level 1 and level 2 automation
• The innovative EOS system recirculates off-gases, significantly reducing SOx and CO₂ emissions while drastically lowering solid fuel costs
• Commissioning is scheduled for May 2028

JSW Utkal Steel Limited has awarded SMS group a contract to supply an SMS Agglomeration sinter plant for its new integrated steelworks in Odisha. This greenfield project, which is part of a 13.2 MTPA integrated steel plant and will be the third sinter plant of this scale within the JSW Group, is set to further strengthen the long-standing partnership between JSW and SMS group. The facility will be equipped with state-of-the-art SMS sinter technology.

SMS will provide the full design, engineering, and equipment supply package, including electrical systems and level 1 and level 2 automation. The plant will also feature Optimus Sinter, a digital solution designed to help enhance overall plant productivity. In addition, the new sinter plant will be fitted with advanced Emission- and Energy-Optimized Sintering (EOS) technology. By recovering and utilizing waste heat, EOS will improve plant efficiency, significantly reduce emissions, and lower operating costs.

This landmark order underscores SMS's leadership in agglomeration technologies and digitalization for the steel industry. The new traveling-grate sinter plant will incorporate cutting-edge technologies to enhance operational performance, improve energy efficiency, and reduce its environmental footprint, while supporting reliable, productive operation. Optimus Sinter will complement the plant by helping to further improve operational efficiency. The digital solution optimizes fuel consumption, stabilizes production, and provides real-time process insights without requiring additional hardware investment.
