Loma Linda University Behavioral Medicine Center (BMC) is marking 35 years of providing compassionate behavioral health services.
Since opening in 1991, the center's physicians, nurses, therapists, staff members, and leaders have dedicated themselves to caring for the whole person by addressing physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Over the past three and a half decades, the BMC has become a cornerstone of behavioral healthcare in the region, serving individuals and families through inpatient, outpatient, and crisis services.
"For 35 years, Loma Linda University Behavioral Medicine Center has played an important role in advancing Loma Linda University Health's mission of making man whole," said Edward Field, vice president of Loma Linda University Behavioral Medicine Center. "Through compassionate, whole-person behavioral health care, the BMC has brought hope and healing to individuals and families across our region."
The center began serving patients in Redlands and has since expanded its reach to communities throughout the Inland Empire, including Murrieta and Rancho Cucamonga. Leaders say the growth reflects an ongoing commitment to increasing access to behavioral health services and responding to the evolving needs of the communities the BMC serves.
As the organization celebrates the anniversary milestone, LLUH is also looking ahead with several expansions aimed at strengthening behavioral healthcare across the region.
Among those advancements is the opening of a new EmPATH unit, designed to provide specialized care for individuals experiencing behavioral health crises. The center is also preparing to expand youth inpatient services next summer through the addition of beds in the Hinshaw Tower, increasing capacity to care for children and adolescents in need of mental health treatment.
Field said the center's accomplishments are possible because of its employees' dedication and commitment.
"These accomplishments would not be possible without the dedication of our employees, who continue to carry our mission forward and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve," he said.
As the BMC enters its next chapter, leaders say the center remains focused on expanding access to care, meeting growing community needs, and continuing its legacy of whole person healing for future generations.
