The President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili and the President of Slovakia, Peter Pellegrini, paid tribute to those who lost their lives while attempting to escape from communist Czechoslovakia between 1945 and 1989, and laid a wreath at the Gate of Freedom Memorial.
The memorial was inaugurated in 2005 in Devín. It stands as a symbol of freedom and victory.
Mikheil Kavelashvili visited Devín together with the Georgian delegation including: the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, Nikoloz Samkharadze; the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, George Zurabashvili; the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Slovak Republic, Konstantine Kvachakidze; as well as representatives of the Administration of the President of Georgia.
