STATEMENT: Gottheimer Statement on the House Funding Bill

WASHINGTON - Today, November 12, 2025, U.S. Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-5) released the following statement:

"From day one of this shutdown, I've been clear: We must protect families from surging health care costs. Families are already suffering under the weight of childcare, groceries, and higher energy bills.

We had one request from Speaker Johnson: Let us vote to extend the Affordable Care Act premium tax credits and save families thousands on their health insurance premiums. They refused.

They didn't give the American people more affordable health care, so they don't get my vote. When they work with us on a bipartisan solution, then I'm in.

Worse, the funding bill they jammed through even included a dark-of-night, backdoor deal to pay at least $500,000 in taxpayer funds to Senators investigated after January 6.

For 24 million families on the ACA, their health care costs will surge an average of 26% next year. Some Jersey families will pay 175% more for their health insurance premiums because of the expiring ACA tax credits. In total, 4.2 million Americans will lose their health care coverage because they won't be able to afford it.

Both sides in both the House and Senate must get to the table, find common ground, and deliver a bipartisan plan that makes health care more affordable for Jersey families and all Americans. As I've offered for months, I'll meet with anyone, anytime to get this done - in the House, in the Senate, or at the White House."
