Log Cabin Republicans interim executive director Ed Williams released the following statement:
"LGBT conservatives support efforts to reduce unnecessary and wasteful spending, and applaud President Trump and Republicans for using the rescissions mechanism to do so. However, we strongly urge Congress to take a close look at the proposed cuts to PEPFAR, a proven, bipartisan initiative that has saved millions of lives and significantly strengthened America's standing around the world. While we agree that PEPFAR is long overdue for re-evaluation and re-organization, arbitrarily cutting its already-approved budget without due diligence would undermine the U.S. commitment to fight the global HIV/AIDS epidemic. President Trump was a champion of PEPFAR in his first term and committed the U.S. to ending the disease. We look forward to working with Congress to protect the U.S. commitment to fighting HIV/AIDS while safeguarding taxpayers' dollars."
