Parkview Health breaks ground on Parkview Marion, expanding emergency and urgent care access

Facility designed to deliver appropriate treatment without unnecessary expense

Marion, IND. - April 28, 2026 - Parkview Health celebrated the official groundbreaking of Parkview Marion today, marking the start of construction on a new freestanding emergency department and urgent care facility designed to enhance access to high-quality care for Grant County and surrounding communities while supporting Parkview Health's broader efforts to improve affordability.

Located at 6334 Corridor Drive, Parkview Marion will provide 24/7 emergency care alongside urgent care services in a single, community-based setting, giving patients one convenient location for walk-in care while ensuring they are treated at the appropriate level of service.

"Parkview Marion represents our promise to this community," said Deb Potempa, market president, Parkview Health South. "As Marion continues to grow and evolve, we are investing in care that is accessible, responsive, and built around the needs of the people who live and work here."

During the ceremony, Parkview leaders were joined by state and local officials to recognize the project's significance and its impact on the region. Speakers emphasized the role Parkview Marion will play in improving emergency response times, reducing travel for care and strengthening overall community health.

First announced in 2025 as part of the system's expansion into Grant County, Parkview Marion will use an innovative ER/urgent care model designed to improve access while helping contain costs for patients.

When patients arrive at the 28,500-square-foot facility, they will be evaluated by providers and treated at the appropriate level of care. Conditions that can be safely managed through urgent care will be billed accordingly - typically at a lower cost than emergency care - eliminating confusion for patients seeking walk-in treatment. Parkview first introduced this model with the opening of Parkview Southwest in 2023, where it has been well-received by patients.

"Access to timely emergency and urgent care is critical to the health and safety of any community," said Dr. Tom Gutwein, emergency department medical director, Parkview Health. "Parkview Marion represents a meaningful investment in the well-being of Grant County, helping ensure residents can receive the right level of care, closer to home, when it matters most."

The facility is being designed in partnership with Design Collaborative, the Fort Wayne-based architecture and engineering firm that has collaborated with Parkview on numerous healthcare facilities across the region. The team worked closely with Parkview clinicians and operations leaders to create a flexible, patient-centered design that supports efficient care delivery.

Construction on Parkview Marion is being led by Garmong Construction, an Indiana-based firm with more than a century of experience and a strong track record in healthcare construction. Garmong is partnering closely with Parkview and the project team to deliver a safe, high-quality facility designed for long-term performance.

Once complete, the emergency department will include 10 exam rooms and will be strategically positioned for eastward expansion to accommodate continued growth. A dedicated outpatient clinic wing will house family medicine, comprehensive imaging and lab services, and specialty care across 19 exam rooms. Positioned for long-term flexibility, the clinic is designed to expand westward without disrupting emergency operations.

Construction on Parkview Marion is now underway, with the facility expected to open in the fall of 2027.
