During his State of the Union speech, President Trump promised justice for Iryna Zarutska, a 23-year old Ukrainian refugee who was brutally murdered on a light-rail train in Charlotte by a career criminal six months ago.
Speaking directly to her mother, Anna Zarutska, President Trump promised, "No one will ever forget the expression of terror on Iryna's face as she looked up at her attacker in the last seconds of her life... Mrs. Zarutska-tonight, I promise you, we will ensure JUSTICE for your magnificent daughter, Iryna."
The monster responsible for Iryna's murder, DeCarlos Brown, was just one of the 3,500 prisoners who was included on Roy Cooper's list to be released early from prison.
Background:
As governor, Roy Cooper oversaw the early release of more than 3,500 criminals from the North Carolina prison system
Cooper's early release list, which was kept from the public until now, included convicted murderers, child rapists, and 51 inmates serving life sentences for violent crimes
DeCarlos Brown had 14 prior arrests and was repeatedly released back onto the streets
Cooper said one of his major "accomplishments" was the creation of a "racial equity" task force that pushed to eliminate cash bail for certain crimes, the policy led to the release of career criminal DeCarlos Brown not long before the murder of Iryna Zarutska
Cooper also oversaw the release of nearly 500 illegal immigrants from North Carolina jails, including individuals charged with sex offenses, kidnapping, arson, and homicide
