Hospital Regional Lambayeque (HRL) boosts laboratory with state-of-the-art analyzer

Plans to expand care to 15,000 patients per year

The Regional Hospital of Lambayeque (HRL) has put into operation a state-of-the-art analyzer for the Clinical Laboratory Service. This equipment will allow up to 1,800 tests per hour to be processed, enabling faster, more precise, and timely care for patients in the Lambayeque region and the northern macro-region.

Tony Farías Rodríguez, head of the Diagnostic Support Department, reported that the investment for the acquisition and use of this equipment amounts to 5.8 million soles, a sum also allocated for the purchase of reagents for two years. "With this implementation, we will improve coverage, quality, and speed of results," he emphasized.

"This modern analyzer will allow tests such as glucose, urea, creatinine, renal, hepatic, and lipid profiles to be performed; as well as tests for complex diseases such as HIV, hepatitis B and C, tuberculosis, tumor markers, and hormones, among others," the specialist detailed.

Currently, the HRL laboratory area serves an average of 300 patients daily in three shifts. With the new equipment, a 20% increase in annual care capacity is projected, going from an average of 12,000 patients attended in 2024 to more than 15,000 in 2025.

It was also reported that with the current equipment, 1,200 tests per hour could be processed, while the new device increases this to 1,800 per hour; representing a significant growth in processing speed and reliability of diagnoses.

"The equipment features an intelligent sample processing system called Sample Handler, which automatically organizes tubes, performs auto-calibrations and quality controls; optimizing staff time and ensuring results with a higher confidence index," he added.

The specialist highlighted the commitment of the team made up of 20 medical technologists, who are continuously trained to maximize the use of this technology. He also reported that the area was remodeled and conditioned, including the installation of freezers and air conditioning systems to guarantee the quality of the reagents.

"This achievement is the result of coordinated work between the medical, logistics, and administrative parts of the hospital. We are halfway through officially starting care for the population, finishing the training and quality control stage; meanwhile, we continue to serve with the previous equipment," he pointed out.

Finally, it was highlighted that this is the first equipment of its kind, with Sample Handler, installed in public hospitals in the northern macro-region, marking a milestone in strengthening clinical diagnosis for patients in Lambayeque, as well as in the regions of Tumbes, Piura, Cajamarca, La Libertad, Amazonas, and San Martín.
