We are pleased to confirm that the City has reached a collective bargaining agreement with Teamsters Local 120, representing Metro Transit operators and mechanics.
"Metro Transit provides a vital public service that our community depends on. This would not be possible without the dedicated people who keep the buses running. The City of Madison values our union partners, and this agreement demonstrates that by working together, we can do right by our employees and our residents," says Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway. "I want to acknowledge that the historic upgrades to our transit network - including finally bringing Bus Rapid Transit to Madison after decades of planning - required a big lift from Metro employees. We are all benefiting from their hard work and I truly appreciate their service to Madison and our neighboring communities."
The City thanks the Teamsters for their collaboration in setting common goals, offering solutions, and finding compromises. We feel confident that this deal will ensure that our represented employees are paid a fair wage and have the protections they deserve to deliver the essential services they provide. We believe the overwhelming ratifying vote by union members demonstrates that this deal represents a significant victory for all parties.
Highlights of the new contract include:
Increasing pay 3 percent per year to ensure parity with other City workers, including a one-time bonus to ensure salaries have kept up with inflation
Increased collaboration between the City and Local 120 members regarding work conditions and guidelines
A quicker progression in vacation accrual for all employees
Ensuring employees are guaranteed personal protection equipment
Building off recent efforts to ensure employees have safe working conditions and support
In addition to thanking the Teamsters and City Labor Relations staff for their hard work in crafting this agreement, we want to also thank all of the employees who work for Metro Transit. Their commitment to their jobs means that Madisonians can rely on transit to get them where they need to go, and results in millions of rides annually. We are pleased to be able to reach an agreement that supports them and their success in delivering those services. The contract will be introduced for adoption at the next Common Council meeting.
