GDOT: SR 400 Express Lanes Project Construction to Begin in Forsyth County

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced that heavy construction activities for the SR 400 Express Lanes project are expected to begin in April 2026, including portions within Forsyth County.

According to GDOT, initial construction in Forsyth County will take place along SR 400 between McGinnis Ferry Road (future Exit 11B) and McFarland Parkway (Exit 12).

As construction begins and ramps up, GDOT advises that residents, commuters and community partners can expect to see increased activity in the corridor, including:

  • Construction equipment mobilizing
  • Work zones being established
  • Phased traffic shifts
  • Increased field activity as contractors begin heavy construction

This work is part of a larger 16-mile project corridor, with construction occurring in segments over time (see chart from GDOT below).

GDOT will continue to provide updates to help residents and motorists plan ahead as the project progresses. Residents are encouraged to stay alert when traveling through work zones and to plan for potential changes in traffic patterns as construction begins.
