The UN Convention on Biological Diversity (UN CBD) held an experts' meeting to further technical discussions on advancing policy coherence across the three Rio Conventions, ultimately considering synergies and potential co-benefits across climate, biodiversity, and land-use policies. Agnes Vinblad, Senior Director, Environment and Sustainable Development at USCIB, was an invited policy expert, and the sole private sector representative at the meeting.
The meeting convened June 1-5 at the International Conservation Academy on the Isle of Vilm in Germany. The session included approximately 30 experts, representing governments, civil society, and international organizations.
"For US business, it is critical that any efforts on environmental policy coherence are firmly rooted in preserving and protecting hard-won negotiated mandates of each respective Convention," said Vinblad "Efforts on advancing Rio Convention policy coherence should be focused on capacity building at national levels, and greater technical dialogue at the multilateral level to avoid duplication and promote efficiency."
