Senator Justice, Acting FEMA Administrator visit McDowell County to Survey Flood Recovery Effort

MCDOWELL, WV - Today, Senator Jim Justice traveled to McDowell County where he and Acting FEMA Administrator Cameron Hamilton met and delivered an update on the recovery effort following devastating floods last month:

"What we've seen in McDowell County is absolutely devastating, and Cathy and I continue to pray for those who lost their lives in this horrible natural disaster. As Senator I have worked directly with the Trump Administration to bring relief as quickly as possible much like I did while Governor. We thank everyone for their work from first responders to local officials and everyone in between because this clean-up effort takes all of us pulling the rope together," said Senator Jim Justice.

BACKGROUND:

• On February 15, McDowell County experienced the worst flood in its history bringing more than a months' worth of rain in two days.
• The flooding took the lives of three West Virginians, a two-year-old boy and his two legal guardians.
• On February 18, Senator Justice joined the West Virginia congressional delegation in sending a letterto President Trump requesting a major disaster declaration for the county.
• On February 26, President Trump approved the disaster request, bringing federal support to help with recovery efforts.
