WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (TX-30) introduced the Stop Taxpayer-funded Reimbursement for Unlawful Misconduct by Presidents Act - or the STOP TRUMP Act - to block taxpayer dollars from being used to fund political settlements, compensation schemes, or payouts benefiting President Donald Trump, his allies, or January 6 participants under the guise of so-called "government weaponization" claims.
The legislation comes amid reports that Trump is seeking billions of taxpayer dollars through lawsuits and political settlement negotiations tied to investigations and prosecutions against him and his allies.
"Working families are struggling to afford groceries, gas, rent, and healthcare - the last thing taxpayers should be forced to do is bankroll political revenge tours and payouts for Donald Trump and his cronies," said Congresswoman Crockett. "This bill makes it clear that taxpayer dollars are not a personal slush fund for presidents, political loyalists, or extremists who participated in an attack on our democracy."
