Congresswoman Crockett Introduces STOP TRUMP Act to Prevent Taxpayer-Funded Political Payoffs

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (TX-30) introduced the Stop Taxpayer-funded Reimbursement for Unlawful Misconduct by Presidents Act - or the STOP TRUMP Act - to block taxpayer dollars from being used to fund political settlements, compensation schemes, or payouts benefiting President Donald Trump, his allies, or January 6 participants under the guise of so-called "government weaponization" claims.

The legislation comes amid reports that Trump is seeking billions of taxpayer dollars through lawsuits and political settlement negotiations tied to investigations and prosecutions against him and his allies.

"Working families are struggling to afford groceries, gas, rent, and healthcare - the last thing taxpayers should be forced to do is bankroll political revenge tours and payouts for Donald Trump and his cronies," said Congresswoman Crockett. "This bill makes it clear that taxpayer dollars are not a personal slush fund for presidents, political loyalists, or extremists who participated in an attack on our democracy."

The STOP TRUMP Act would:

• Ban federal funds - including the federal Judgment Fund - from being used to settle or pay claims brought by a president, their family members, political appointees, affiliated entities, or January 6 participants tied to alleged "government weaponization" claims.
• Prohibit the creation of taxpayer-funded compensation commissions or reimbursement programs designed to reward political allies.
• Prevent the Department of Justice from representing cases where the President could personally or politically benefit financially.
• Require repayment of any unlawfully distributed federal funds and authorize the Treasury Department and Department of Justice to recover those funds through legal action.

The legislation also makes any prohibited settlement agreements legally void and unenforceable in federal court.
