Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is backing a bipartisan bill to help veterans afford homeownership.
Sen. Ossoff is working across the aisle to pass bipartisan legislation he cosponsored to help Georgia veterans afford homes.
The VA Home Loan Awareness Act would require lenders Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to inform veterans about their potential eligibility for home loan benefits through the VA. These disclosures must be added to the application following the question about military service to ensure veterans can see their housing financing options before signing.
This bipartisan legislation was first introduced by Sens. Tim Sheehy (R-MT) and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD).
"The VA Home Loan program is considered one of the most valuable earned benefits available to veterans, yet far too many veterans are unaware of the benefits available to them," Sen. Ossoff said. "This bipartisan bill will ensure veterans are fully informed of their earned benefits to help access homeownership."
Sen. Ossoff continues working across the aisle to ensure Georgia's veterans can access their benefits.
Earlier this month, Sen. Ossoff launched a push to pass the bipartisan Major Richard Star Act, legislation he co-sponsored that would allow servicemembers who medically retired before 20 years of service to collect retirement pay from the Department of Defense (DoD) and disability payments from the VA at the same time.
In August, Sens. Ossoff and John Kennedy (R-LA) introduced the Service-Disabled Veteran Opportunities in Small Business Act to help disabled veterans' small businesses thrive.
In May, Sen. Ossoff held a press conference with Georgia Marine Corps veteran Samuel McCrary from Loganville, Georgia, to urge the Trump Administration to reverse its decision to cancel the VASP program and help Georgia veterans avoid foreclosure.
This February, Sens. Ossoff and Susan Collins (R-ME) introduced the Rural Veterans Transportation to Care Act to help more veterans in rural areas get transportation to VA health facilities and access the health care benefits they've earned.
In January, Sen. Ossoff announced more Georgia veterans are now eligible for VA health care under the PACT Act, which expanded VA health care for thousands of veterans, including those battling bladder cancer, ureter cancer, other genitourinary cancers, acute and chronic leukemias, and multiple myeloma.
Last year, Sen. Ossoff passed into law his bipartisan Investing in VETS Act to help service-disabled veteran business owners compete for Federal government contracts, helping expand their business opportunities to new markets.
