Legendary BMI songwriter Bill Medley of the iconic duo The Righteous Brothers, sat down with BMI's Dan Spears to discuss his Hall of Fame career in front of restaurant association executives who were attending the Council of State Restaurant Association's 2024 Government Affairs Conference held recently in Las Vegas.
The California native formed The Righteous Brothers with his now deceased partner Bobby Hatfield in 1963 and proceeded to record a string of chart-topping songs including "Unchained Melody" and "You've Lost That Loving Feeling", which for many years held the distinction of being the most performed song in the BMI catalogue. Later Medley recorded a duet with Jennifer Warnes for the movie Dirty Dancing which reached number one on the Billboard chart. "The Time of My Life" also garnered the two a GRAMMY Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group.
The Righteous Brothers were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2003 by Billy Joel. Medley, who is 84 now, is still out on the road performing at venues across the country with his new partner Bucky Heard. The leadership of both the state restaurant associations as well as the National Restaurant Association descended upon Sin City to learn about the latest legislative developments that could impact the hospitality industry and to network and exchange best practices.
