Rockbridge Expands Portfolio in Texas with Acquisition of Three Hotels

COLUMBUS, Ohio - August 26, 2025 - Rockbridge, a hospitality-centered investment firm, announced the acquisition of The Historic Menger Hotel and Crockett Hotel in San Antonio, Texas. Also acquired was the Overton Hotel in Lubbock, Texas.

Rockbridge has a long track record of investing in Texas and continues to add investments, team members, and affiliate companies in the State. The growth of Texas is strong and the State continues to be a sought-after location to live, work, and travel.

The Historic Menger Hotel and Crockett Hotel were acquired in combined partnership with the Texas General Land Office and the Alamo Trust. The Alamo is Texas' number one tourist destination, and the deal will continue to enhance the area around the Alamo that began with the State of Texas investing over $550 million to preserve the Alamo Complex and safeguard this historic location from urban encroachment.

The Historic Menger Hotel, the oldest continuously operating hotel west of the Mississippi, has 316 rooms and is located directly adjacent to the Alamo. The Crockett Hotel has 138 rooms and is also directly adjacent to the Alamo. The hotel was built in 1909 and is named after Davy Crockett, a defender of the Alamo.

"The Alamo, The Historic Menger Hotel, and Crockett Hotel are deeply rooted in the fabric of American history, " said Jimmy Merkel, CEO and Co-Founder, Rockbridge. "We look forward to working with the State and Alamo Trust to redevelop these hotels in a way that honors it's history while creating an elevated experience with amenities that will enhance the destination for generations to come."

"By securing the footprint around the Alamo complex for the State of Texas, we are protecting these hallowed grounds and enhancing one of our nation's most sacred historical sites. This investment ensures the Shrine of Texas Liberty, the Alamo, will become the most prominent battlefield site in the country - charting its own destiny for generations to come," said Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D.

"These properties have been part of the Alamo's legacy since 1859. Their acquisition allows us to bring that rich history full circle. As we continue moving forward with the Alamo Plan, this acquisition represents a powerful opportunity to create a more immersive and seamless guest experience-one where visitors can explore 300 years of history like never before. We are grateful to the State of Texas for their generous support and Rockbridge for their partnership. The sale of these two iconic hotels came at just the right time and it took all of us working together to make it come to fruition," said Dr. Kate Rogers, Executive Director of Alamo Trust, Inc.

Rockbridge also announced the acquisition of The Overton Hotel in Lubbock, Texas. The Overton is steps away from Texas Tech University. It features 303 rooms and includes 20,000 SF of combined meeting and event space.

"We are excited to add these three properties to our portfolio," said Matt Welch, Managing Director, Rockbridge. "Working across all parties in this transaction was a great example of collaboration, innovative thinking, and partnership."
