A special Christmas delivery arrived at Huyton Dog's Trust today, Monday 22 December.
A Police carrier full of donations from staff and officers across Merseyside Police, including warm blankets, cosy beds, turkey treats and plentiful supplies of food for dogs, arrived at the Huyton Dog's Trust this morning in time to brighten Christmas at the shelter.
This is the second year that Knowsley Local Policing Inspector, Andy Robinson, has collected donations from across the force to support his local shelter, and comes off the back of his completing his £20,000 charity fundraising milestone in November.
Inspector Robinson began fundraising with his pet huskies, Thor and Loki, in 2012, and has become even more determined than ever to benefit the community he serves since Thor's death in 2024 from cancer, and with Loki now too frail to complete any more charity walks.
"It matters so much to me that what I started with my boys keeps going, even when they can't anymore.
"The support from colleagues for Thor and Loki's Christmas Wish is heartwarming. You think people might bring in the odd tin of dog food to donate - but the donation points just overflowed. They actually became a bit of a trip hazard!
"I've been a Local Policing Inspector in Knowsley for 3 years now, so I feel a big sense of responsibility for the welfare of the area as a whole.
"People have to give up their dogs for all sorts of reasons - and I can imagine for so many people that's a truly heartbreaking decision to make. I hope seeing these donations will give those people a little bit of comfort, knowing the dogs will at least have a happy Christmas.
"The work The Dog's Trust do is incredibly important, and I'm grateful to be able to play a small part, in the name of my own boys, in supporting it."
