The Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) and Downtown Development Board (DDB), momentum continued to build as new projects were introduced to spark growth, creativity, and engagement in the heart of Downtown Clearwater. The agenda highlighted three key actions that underscored the city's focus on supporting small businesses, enhancing public spaces, and advancing long-term community growth.
The Downtown Development Board awarded a $15,000 Community Event Grant to Clearwater Closet to support a six-month series of pop-up events starting June 28 at 624 Chestnut Street. Each event will include live music, vendor participation, and wellness-themed programming. Business owner Austin Summer spoke about building momentum for small businesses and creating free public gathering spaces in a part of Downtown primed for activation.

The CRA recognized Clear Sky on Cleveland as the May Business Spotlight winner. During the meeting, board members praised the restaurant's commitment to Downtown, especially during the challenges of the pandemic. The business was acknowledged for helping sustain the merchant community and continuing to contribute to a vibrant, welcoming downtown experience.

Riff Fitness, located at 1280 Court Street, received approval for a Downtown Commercial Grant of $101,297.66 to support a major renovation project. Improvements will include new HVAC systems, plumbing and electrical updates, upgraded windows and signage, and outdoor enhancements. Owner Ben Gilbert, a Clearwater native, shared his journey from homegrown startup to established wellness brand. He also announced plans to use the upgraded exterior for free outdoor events and health seminars to benefit the wider community.
