"Your participation in the Healthy Heart Hustle helps us improve the quality of life for husbands, wives, fathers and mothers, co-workers, and friends, who have experienced a cardiac event," said Al Evon, Director, Mercyhealth Foundation. "Because cardiac rehabilitation reduces the occurrence of future cardiac events, you also help save lives. The funds raised through the 5K have helped to purchase key equipment and provided training for staff members so that we can provide the best possible care to the people in the communities we serve."The medically supervised cardiac rehabilitation exercise program serves up to 35 patients per day at Mercyhealth Heart and Vascular Center-Freeport. The program is designed to improve cardiovascular health after a heart attack, heart failure, angioplasty or heart surgery.
