Navy and Coast Guard successfully control Colombo Port fuel spill

In a swift and coordinated joint operation, the Sri Lanka Navy and Coast Guard successfully controlled a fuel spill off the coast of Colombo this morning (14 Dec 25). The incident, caused by a sudden leak in a fuel buoy near the Colombo Port, was contained through the immediate response.

Upon notification from the Ports Authority, the Navy promptly deployed 03 Fast Attack Craft. These units, alongside the Coast Guard Ship Samaraksha, effectively worked to control the spill. The operation was conducted with the expert assistance of the Marine Environmental Protection Authority and the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.
