Help Grow a Greener Fort Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale is growing a greener future by expanding and improving the trees in our city-our urban forest. We're aiming for 33% tree canopy coverage by 2040, which means more trees for shade, cleaner air, and a more beautiful city!

Your input is essential as we develop an Urban Forestry Master Plan to achieve this. The Plan will assess the current state of the urban forest, create priorities and provide a sustainable framework for management, maintenance and regulation.

Current Status

Help shape the future of our urban forest. A draft of the Urban Forestry Master Plan is open for public comment until 5 p.m. on Friday, October 17.

What's Next

The following is a tentative timeline of upcoming activities:

  • Tuesday, September 30 - RES, the City's consultant, will present the draft Urban Forestry Master Plan to the Sustainability Advisory Board at 6 p.m. at Fire Station 2, 3rd Floor Conference Room (528 NW 2nd St. Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311)
  • October 2025 - The draft Urban Forestry Master Plan will be revised based on public feedback and input from the Sustainability Advisory Board.
  • November 2025 - The final Urban Forestry Master Plan will be presented to the City Commission during a Commission Conference meeting.

Draft Master Plan - Share Your Comments

Survey - Results Available

The City encouraged neighbors and businesses to contribute to the Urban Forestry Master Plan by responding to a survey in spring 2025. Responses are being considered during the development of the Plan's goals and recommendations.

Public Meetings - Recordings Available

Public meetings were held in March & April 2025 throughout the City, with in-person and virtual options, to collect community feedback. The meetings were identical in format and started with a brief presentation featuring an overview of the Urban Forestry Master Plan, followed by an opportunity for public comment and discussion.
