Minister of Foreign Affairs delivers statement during the General Debate of the 2025 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF)

On 22 July 2025, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, delivered a statement during the General Debate of the 2025 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) under the theme "UN@80: Catalyzing Change for Sustainable Development," reaffirming Thailand's strong commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a national priority. The Minister also commended the role of the United Nations and the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in advancing the SDGs, particularly as this year marks the 80th anniversary of the United Nations and the 10th anniversary of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

In addition, the Minister highlighted three key points: (1) political will of States must be translated into concrete action, supported by a strong multilateral system. The UN@80 initiative presents a timely opportunity for Member States to enhance the effectiveness of the United Nations, with sustainability at its core; (2) the financing gap for the SDGs must be addressed through mobilizing investment and innovative financing solutions; and (3) Thailand, as the ASEAN Coordinator for Sustainable Development Cooperation, emphasized the importance of strong and sustained partnerships, including North-South, South-South, triangular cooperation, and public-private partnerships, as well as the need to address transnational threats such as online scams and human trafficking, which undermine human security and hinder sustainable development. The Minister further underscored that meaningful and sustainable change must begin at home and urged all Member States to take concrete action to advance the SDGs for sustainable development that leaves no one behind.
